The first edition of this work. In two volumes. This work looks at prominent historical figures in the shooting sporting scene up to the nineteenth century. Some of the people looked at in this work are Izaak Walton, Colonel Peter Hawker, Lord Kennedy, Captain Horatio Ross, William Cotton Oswell, Alexander Russel, the Earl of Stamford, and more. Volume I with a frontispiece, and fifteen plates. Volume II with a frontispiece, and fifteen plates. Written under the pseudonym 'Thormanby'. Bookplate to the front pastedowns, 'Frank A. Staples, Yarcombe, Devon. Collated, complete.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A little rubbing to the joints. Light marks to the boards, a little heavier to the rear board of Volume I and to the front board of Volume II. Bookplate to the front pastedowns. Internally, generally firmly bound, though a little strained in places. Pages are bright with the odd scattered spot. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the title pages.
