A handsome and complete twenty-volume set of the works of the renowned and beloved Charles Dickens, including his most famous works, his contributions to periodicals, his short stories, and biographical works about him by George Gissing and J. A. Nicklin. To the rear of Volume XX is a dictionary of characters and settings used in Dickens's works. Each volume contains the various prefaces to different editions of the works within.

All volumes are illustrated with a colour frontispiece and eight engraved plates, except for Volume XX which has twelve engraved plates. Volumes I, VI and XIII are illustrated by Max Cowper. Volumes II, IX and XV are illustrated by William Rainey. Volume III by W. S. Stacey. Volumes IV and X are illustrated by Claude A. Shepperson. Volumes V, XI and XIV are illustrated by H. M. Brock. Volume VII is illustrated by J. H. F. Bacon and Fred Pegram. Volumes VIII and XII are illustrated by J. H. F. Bacon. Volume XVI is illustrated by C. A. Shepperson; A. R. W. S., and W. S. Stacey. Condition

In quarter morocco bindings. Externally, very smart, with only light shelf wear to the extremities. Gilt remains bright. Very small holes to the spines of Volumes I, VII, VIII, IX, XI, XII, XVII, XVIII, XIX and XX. A little rubbing to the head of the spines to Volumes V, VIII and XII; faint marks to the front board of Volume XIV; and a couple of small bumps to the extremities of Volume XVI; otherwise smart. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with just the odd spot to the fore edge.
