    The first edition of this work. Signed by the author to the recto of front endpaper. 'With the Author's Best Regards' dated 1907. Penned by Charles Downing, also known as 'Clelia'. He also wrote the works, 'God in Shakespeare' and 'Great Pan Lives'. The work opens with 'The Messiahship of Shakespeare: a Symbolic Poem' before exploring the religious symbolism to 'The Sonnets', 'The Tempets', 'The Winter's Tale', 'Cymbeline' and more. A truly intriguing piece of literary criticism and religious philosophy.

    Condition

    In a full cloth binding. Externally, rubbed to the spine and board edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd spots.
