1901 The First Men in the Moon
What Our Customers Say...
First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Rebound
First edition, later state binding, with blue text to the boards and spine, rather that the gilt of the first issue, and white endpapers.
'The First Men in the Moon' is an important science romance novel, following a journey to the Moon undertaken by a businessman and an eccentric scientist.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, and eleven plates, by Claude Shepperson.
By H. G. Wells, this work was originally serialised in the 'Strand Magazine' from December 1900 to August 1901.
This work inspired C. S. Lewis, as he strove to write his own science fiction to be the antithesis of Wells' work, though he did enjoy 'The First Men in the Moon'.
In the original publisher's later state cloth binding, smartly rebacked with the original boards and spine restored. Externally, smart. A little light discolouration and minor marks to the original cloth, marks a little heavier to the tail of the front board. Small mark to the fore edge. Library bind stamp to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and clean with only a couple of small marks and spots. Very small closed tear to the tail of the frontispiece.
