Limited Edition, Pleasing Copy, Rebound

A limited edition to five hundred copies printed on Van Gelder hand made paper. 

Considered to be Anatole France's best work, this novel is based on the life of Thais of Egypt, a legendary convert to Christianity who is said to have lived in the fourth century. 

It inspired the opera of the same name by Jules Massenet. 

A French work, translated. Originally published in 1890.  

Illustrated with a frontispiece and nineteen beautiful plates throughout. 
 

Condition

In a full cloth binding. Externally smart with only minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The cloth to the spine is slightly darkened. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with some off setting to the half title page. Illustrated with a frontispiece and nineteen beautiful plates.
