This text contains two of the Scottish essayist and historian Thomas Carlyle's works, those being 'Sartor Resartus' as well as 'On Heroes, Hero-Worship, and the Heroic in History'.
'Sartor Resartus', otherwise known as 'Sartor Resartus: The Life and Opinions of Herr Teufelsdrockh' is a satirised commentary on the early life of a fictional philosopher.
'On Heroes, Hero-Worship, and the Heroic in History', is a collection of six lectures that the author gave in 1840 about prominent historical figures.
With a bibliographical note and testimonies of authors to front of text, explaining the current and previous editions of these works.
Collated, complete.
Condition
Bound in full-calf by Sotheran & Co, with gilt illustrations to board margins and spine. Externally, excellent, with no noticeable faults other than a bit of rubbing to the joints. Spotting to text block. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and generally clean, with the occasional spot to the fore edge as well as to the first and last few pages of text.
