First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and four plates. Collated complete. The racing life of Arthur Nightingall, a British jockey who went on to win the 1901 Grand National in a legendary race which saw only eight horses complete the course during a howling snowstorm. With chapters on life growing up with a jockey family, riding abroad, training experiences, a few falls, and many racing stories. Edited by H. G. Harper, a British writer on equestrian subjects. Dated from the University of East Anglia Library.
Condition
In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper with a contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown.
