Illustrated with a frontispiece, numerous vignette illustrations, and thirty one photographic plates. Collated, complete.

Divided into twenty-five chapters, Haddon discusses Malu ceremonies, the Murray islands, turtle fishing, marriage customs and myths, Cape York natives, and the country and people of Borneo.The penultimate chapter is titled 'the cult of skulls in Sarawak'.

With the contemporary inscription of Arnold Southall to the half title, and a forty-eight page publisher's catalogue to the rear.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Discolouration to back strip, with bumping to back strip head and tail and closed tears to spine head. Endpapers renewed. Internally, firmly bound. Inscription to head of half title. Light spotting throughout.
