The first edition of this work. With 12 hand coloured plates between the two volumes. Collated, complete.

A work detailing the pastimes of seventeenth to nineteenth century London inhabitants. Boulton details the life of the city from the Restoration of Charles II to the accession of Queen Victoria. Focusing on the social history of the city, sports, tea gardens, parks, fairs, operas and playhouses are all explored.

The illustrations stem from contemporary sources, and are coloured by hand.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bright. Some discolouration of the spine, with bumping to the head and tail. Internally, firmly bound. Tissue guards intact. Pages are bright, with the occasional finger mark.
