A complete five volume set of the novels of Jane Austen, consisting of: the 1901 editions of 'Emma' and 'Sense and Sensibility'; the 1902 edition of 'Northanger Abbey' and 'Persuasion', bound together, and the 1903 editions of 'Mansfield Park' and 'Pride and Prejudice'.
Each volume is illustrated throughout by Hugh Thomson, best known for his pen-and-ink illustrations of works by authors including Austen, Charles Dickens and J. M. Barrie. Thomson inaugurated the 'Cranford School' of illustration with the publication of his 1891 Macmillan edition of Elizabeth Gaskell's 'Cranford'.
Initially published in this edition between 1895 and 1897, present here are later impressions of Thomson's editions of Austen's novels.

Condition
In half calf bindings, with cloth covered boards. Significant fading to back strips, with boards bright. Rear board of 'Sense and Sensibility' detached to tail, and loosely held to head only. Front joint of 'Northanger Abbey and Persuasion' and 'Emma' starting, with tail of front joint of 'Emma' starting, and board holding firm. Front joint of 'Pride and Prejudice' starting, with board holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
