Description

Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

The second edition of this work from American novelist and actress Louise Jordan Miln, published in the same year as the first.

Explaining in her introduction that she is of the mind that 'to be married unhappily is far more desirable than not to be married at all' and that in this work she will explore marriage across the globe, be it 'marriage by capture, marriage by purchase' or 'marriage by fascination', this is a fascinating insight into both the cultures she explores, and a turn of the century Western woman's perspective on them.

In twenty-eight chapters, Miln explores marriage traditions in such locales as Arctic Lands, Ceylon, Burmah and 'Gipsy Land', with supplementary photographic plates of the brides and weddings in many of these regions.
