A first edition first impression of this work with the dated to the title page. 

Won by the Sword is a historical fiction set during the Thirty Years' War. This was one of the longest and most destructive conflicts in European history, lasting from 1618 t0 1648. 

George Alfred Henty was an English novelist and War Correspondent who is most known for his works of adventure fiction and historical fiction.  

With twelve illustrations by Charles M. Sheldon and four plans.
Collated, complete.  

With thirty two pages of publisher adverts to the rear.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some fading to the spine and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Front hinge is starting but remains firm. With a bookplate from Ring Street Church to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
