Illustrated with frontispieces, vignettes and six maps, including three folding and one of them coloured, and eighteen plates to 'Vol 1' and six plates to 'Vol II'. Collated complete. 

seventeen monochrome plates and a folding plate to the rear to 'Volume I' and six plates to 'Volume II'. 

This biography on William Cotton Oswell was written by his son, Edward William Oswell, documenting his hunts, travels and life. William Oswell was an English explorer, particularly in Africa after he was sent their for health reasons. Oswell participated in many expeditions and was known for his hunting skills, with a species of rhino being named after him.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth. Externally generally smart with fading to the spines, bumping to the extremities, small closed tears to the head and tail of the spine, the odd mark to the boards, heaviest to 'Volume II' with damp stain to the front board, bumping to the rear board and cockling to the tail of the front board to 'Volume II'. Bookplate from 'Julian and Susan Dolman' to the front free endpapers with slight marks and very light offsetting. Internally firmly bound with generally bright pages with only the lightest age toning and the odd spot and minor mark. The odd page highlighted.
