Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was an important Scottish novelist, best known for works including 'Treasure Island', 'Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' and 'Kidnapped'. His works were extremely widely-read and acclaimed during his lifetime, and he is one of the most widely translated authors in the world.

Containing a leaf pasted to the front endpaper with a description reading 'Leaves of three planted by Samoans by R.L.S' grave, 1914. The tree is always planted by the natives in the vicinity of graves.'

Robert Louis Stevenson was buried upon Mount Vaea by the Samoans, by whom he was well-loved. A beautiful, and personal, addition to a work by Stevenson.
