Features the binding stamp of Hatchards of Piccadilly, the oldest bookshop in England.
Attached to the pastedowns of both volumes is the bookplate of the Earl of Halsbury, a now extinct Devonshire peerage.
Condition
In the original half morocco binding with paper covered boards. Externally smart, with minor loss to extremities. The front board of volume I is held by cords only, and may detach without careful handling. Armorial bookplates to the front pastedowns. Binder's stamp to recto of Volume I front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Photogravure plates have tissue guards intact. Coloured ink to some folding maps, highlighting existing markings and not interfering with readability. Pages generally bright and clean, with only the odd spot.
