Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

The first edition of this work.

An interesting study into poor relief in England, dating from the Anglo-Saxon era.

Published at the very end of the Victorian era, which was known for its poor living conditions among the working classes.

Written by E. M. Leonard.

Prior owner's ink inscription and bookseller's label to the rear pastedown.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Spine is a little faded. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few minor marks to the boards and spine. Prior owner's ink inscription and bookseller's label to the rear pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just a couple of light spots. The occasional pencil underlining to the text. Page 1 of text appears to have previously been stuck a little to the fading leaf, resulting in a little wear and minimal loss to the page.
