The first edition of this work dedicated to ponies used in war, with chapters on ponies in the Soudan, Siberia, India, Northern Africa, Morocco, Eastern Asia, America, Texas, Australia; opening with an account of the horses in the Crimean War and closing with the breeding of small horses. By Sir Walter Gilbey. 

With five full page plates. Collated, complete. 

From the library of Sir Philip L Brocklehurst, known as a member of the Nimrod Expedition in Antarctica of 1907-09 led by Ernest Shackleton.

Condition

In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Signed by Philip Brocklehurst to the title page. With a leaf of advertisement pasted to the rear pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint spotting scattered throughout. With five full page plates. Collated, complete.
