This is an extensively detailed biography of Arthur Wellesley, the First Duke of Wellington, with a particular focus on his battles, the Napoleonic wars and the history of martial power in England. This is revised and abridged from a larger work, featuring an additional chapter.

This is the work of Sir Herbert Maxwell, a Scottish novelist and historian who authored numerous volumes on various subjects, including multiple works on angling.

The prize bookplate for St. Peter's Court, Kent, is attached to the front pastedown, awarding this volume to Ian Hamilton for 'Scripture', Christmas 1901.

In a full calf school prize binding, with gilt detailing. Bumping to extremities, with small loss of leather. Shelf wear to head and tail of spine. Light marks to boards. School prize bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean
