The first edition of this four-volume work in the publisher's original pictorial cloth bindings. All edges gilt.

A comprehensive work on the history of the Boer War, in four volumes, written by Herbert Wrigley Wilson (1866-1940), a British journalist and naval historian. The Boer War was a conflict fought between the British Empire and the two Boer Republics over the Empire's influence in Southern Africa between 1899-1902. With the Flag to Pretoria, A History of the Boer War of 1899-1900 is in two volumes. After Pretoria: The Guerilla War is the supplement to With the Flag of Pretoria and also has two volumes.

Each volume is illustrated with numerous in-text illustrations from photographs and authentic sketches taken in South Africa. A folding map each to Volume I and II of With the Flag to Pretoria. Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth bindings. Externally fairly smart, with fading to the spines, and marks to the boards of Volume I, III and IV. Volume II is faded to the boards, and its front hinge is slightly strained, but held firmly. Remnants of a library bookplate to the front paste downs of all volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age toned, with the odd handling mark. Library stamp to the verso of the title page, page 4, and page 364, to Volume I. Library stamp to the half title page, the verso of the title page, page 367, and page 716, to Volume II. Library stamp to the half title page, the verso of the title page, page 3 and page 528 to Volume III. Library stamp to page vii and page 1008 to Volume IV. Closed tear to the folding map of Volume II.
