The first edition, seventh impression, of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. A few newspaper cuttings c1900, relevant to the text, loosely inserted to the front of the book. "North Stanley Hall, Ripon." is embossed to the front free end paper. Ink inscription to the half title, dated 1899, and to page 104. Sir James Percy FitzPatrick (1862-1931) was a South African author, politician, mining financier and pioneer of the fruit industry. As a politician, he defended British Imperial interests before and during the Anglo-Boer War. In this work, he describes the events in the Transvaal of 1895-6 and defends the actions of the Uitlander. The original publication of this book was delayed for three years, as it was banned by President Kruger.
Condition
In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with a little bumping to the lower extremities, the joints and the head and tail of the spine. Minor staining to the rear board. Internally, binding is slightly strained in a couple of places. Offsetting to the front free end paper and pages viii-ix. Closed tear to page 111, not affecting the text.
