A parody of the classic German children's book by Heinrich Hoffman, each verse of this work makes fun of contemporary late nineteenth century political events in England, including the Boer War. The class system, imperialism and Protestantism are also targets for humour.
Illustrated by F. Carruthers Gould, a British cartoonist known for his contributions to Punch.

Condition
In a quarter cloth binding, with pictorial paper covered boards. Boards age toned to perimeters, but bright. Hinges lightly strained but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with the odd spot. Closed tears to tail of final few leaves.
