The first edition of this work.

A comprehensive account of the First Boer War, written by H. Rider Haggard in 1882, though not published until 1899.

Haggard was in South Africa during this war, this volume vivid with his first-hand account of his experience in the area during this era. The war between the United Kingdom and the Boers of the Transvaal was fought between December 1880 to March 1881.
