Second edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and seventy-nine plates. Collated complete. An important examination of the whole field of Romanesque architecture in relation to the Comacine masons, with chapters on Romano-Lombard architects, the first foreign emigrations of the Comacines, Romanesque architects, Italian-Gothic and Renaissance architects, and more. Written by Lucy Emily Baxter, an English writer on art, chiefly under the pseudonym of Leader Scott. With the bookplates of William Alfred Westropp Foyle, a British bookseller and businessman who co-founded Foyles bookshop in 1903 with his brother Gilbert Foyle. Previously held in the library of Christopher Foyle, a British philanthropist and chairman of the famous Foyle's Bookshop in London. Bound by Morley Bros., Oxford.

Condition

Bound in half crushed morocco with marbled boards. Externally, very smart with light wear to the extremities and minor fading to the spine and board edges. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small spot to the endpapers. Minor wear to the front pastedown with previous owner's bookplate attached. Bound by Morley Bros., Oxford.
