First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
A scarce first edition of Shakespeare's 154 sonnets exploring time, love, lust, jealousy, and mortality. Published with nine dramatic illustrations by Henry Ospovat, collated and complete. Two leaves of illustrations disbound to the rear.
Condition
In the publisher's original binding. Externally, generally smart. Boards rubbed so the cloth colour is a little faded. Gilt lettering to front board still bright. Rubbed at the spine, with bumping to the head and tail and a little wear to the extremities. Cloth ripped at the rear joint, with a small tear at the front joint. A little loss of cloth at the head of the spine. Internally, binding a little tender with two illustrated leaves disbound to the rear. Foxing limited to endpapers, otherwise pages generally clean.
