An early edition of Charles Reade's popular novel Peg Woffington, inspired by the noted Georgian actress Peg (Margaret) Woffington and the popular stage play Masks and Faces which he had co written with Tom Taylor.
With an introduction by Austin Dobson.
Illustrated with various plates and cuts by Hugh Thomson throughout.
Condition
In the original publisher's decorative cloth binding with decorations in gilt to the front board and gilt to the edges. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The book is slightly cocked. The cloth to the spine has slightly faded. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean, with many plates and vignettes in text by Hugh Thomson.
