A late nineteenth century edition of Walter Crane's beautifully illustrated edition of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. Featuring popular tales including 'The Frog Prince', 'Sleeping Beauty' and 'Rapunzel'.
First published in 1882, this edition was translated from the German by Lucy Crane, and illustrated throughout by her brother, the famed artist and book illustrator Walter Crane, celebrated for his contributions to children's literature. With an illustrated frontispiece, title page, and numerous further illustrations throughout from Crane.
With two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear, and a contemporary inscription to the front free endpaper, dated 1900.
Condition
In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Light shelf wear to back strip tail. Otherwise, externally exceptionally bright. Contemporary inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound, with the exception of one gathering (pages 183-186) which is detached but present. Pages clean and bright.
