Inscribed by the author. First edition. An essay awarded the Cartwright Prize for 1887. With diagrams and illustrations throughout. This copy was presented by Sir Gilbert Barling, BT. Barling was an English physician who was involved in the setting up of the Birmingham Branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign (now Cancer Research UK) and became its first Chairman.

Condition

n a full cloth binding. Externally, worn to extremities and sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound, bright and clean with a presentation label to the front free endpaper and author's inscription to the front pastedown.
