A Sentimental Journey through France and Italy was written when Sterne was facing death as he travelled through France as far south as Naples. The novel was extremely popular and influential in helping to establish travel writing as the dominant genre of the second half of the 18th century.

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and some marks to the boards. With an Ex Libris Cefntilla bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
