The first large paper edition of this work, limited to one hundred copies printed. The present is number sixty. A comprehensive farming work by H. Rider Haggard, popular English writer of the nineteenth and twentieth century. Originally serialised for Longman's Magazine, it tells of a farmer's life month by month, from January to December. With an introductory section on Bedingham, Ditchingham and the farms, and appendix discussing the rural exodus and the effects of foreign competition on the British producer.
Illustrated with a frontispiece and thirty-six other full page plates. Collated, complete.
Condition
In the original publisher's binding over duo-tone paper covered boards. Externally smart with some minor shelf wear, darkening to the spine, minor rubbing marks to the rear board. The spine has slightly darkened. Light soiling and handling mark to the boards. Alan Thornton and Charles Heskett Fleetwood Heskett bookplates to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean, only few spots to the occasional leaf of plate. Illustrated with a frontispiece and thirty-six other full page plates. Collated, complete.
