Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

First edition. Bound in half-morocco, with gilt illustrated cloth boards. Illustrations include a frontispiece, a title page vignette, ten black-and-white plates, and in-text illustrations by C. A. Calvert. Plate illustrations are by J. E. Grace, whereas the photographs were taken by Herbert Bickerton, William Penn, and others. Part of the Fur, Feather & Fin Series, whose aim was to present monographs on 'the various English birds, beasts, and fishes' that are included under 'the head of Game'. 'The Trout' is a book on the generalities on the trout, as well as fishing techniques, breeding, and cookery. The section titled 'Trout Fishing' was written by John Manners, Marquess of Granby, whereas 'Trout Breeding' and 'The Cookery of the Trout' were written by Colonel F. H. Custance and Alexander Innes Shand, respectively. One page of publisher's adverts on reverse of half-title page. Collated, complete.

Condition

Bound in half-morocco with gilt illustrated cloth boards. Externally, generally smart. A few marks to boards, as well as some discolouration. Some edge wear has resulted in light rubbing to extremities and along the joint of spine. Bumping to head and tail of spine, with beginning of loss to tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with a bit of age-toning to margins and the odd spot, particularly to the rear endpapers.
