Prior owner's ink inscription to the half-title, 'L. Harrison Matthews'. Matthews was a zoologist, known for his work researching and writing on marine mammals. Throughout his career he held positions at the University of Bristol and the Zoological Society of London, and was also a Fellow of the Royal Society.

A treatise on the natural science of birds and bird anatomy, a fascinating work written during a time of booming popularity in science.

Illustrated with in-text vignettes throughout.

Written by Frank Evers Beddard, a leading authority on annelids.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart, with a few minor handling marks to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A small chip to the spine. Scattered spots to the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some scattered spots.
