George du Maurier (1834-1896) was a Franco-British writer and cartoonist who published in Punch, as well as his novels 'Trilby' and 'The Martian'. He was the grandfather of authors Daphne and Angela du Maurier. 'The Martian' is autobiographical for the most part, and describes the life of Barty Josselin narrated by a friend Robert Maurice.
In the publisher's original binding, with gilt decoration to the front cover.
Profusely illustrated throughout with engravings by the author.
Condition
In a full cloth binding. Externally generally smart, bumping to the tail of the spine and extremities. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean.
