Fine Binding, Illustrated, Signed Binding

In a beautiful fine half crushed morocco binding by Truslove & Hanson.

Ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Isabel C. Talbot de Malahide, to Samuel Gurney, Dec. 25 1904'. Isabel was the Baroness Talbot de Malahide, a notable English philanthropist. Her first husband was John Gurney, with whom she had seven children. The Gurney family were an influential family of English Quakers who had a major role in the development of Norwich. This Samuel Gurney appears to be the child of Isabel and John.

'The Makers of Venice' is a study into the people who make Venice into the influential city that it is, giving brief biographies on the important men in the history of the city.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, twenty-six plates, and in-text illustrations.

Collated, complete.

Written by Margaret Oliphant, a Scottish novelist known for her historical and supernatural novels.

Condition

In a fine half crushed morocco binding by Truslove & Hanson, with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, fine, with just a couple of light patches of rubbing. Ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with only the odd spot to the first and last few pages.
