A first edition collection of reflections derived from the author's journeys, with chapters such as 'Somali Land and People', 'Stony Sinai' and 'Timber Creeping in the Carpathians'.

The work of Edward North Buxton, a British conservationist and Liberal Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1885 to 1886.He was a founding member of the Society for the Preservation of the Wild Fauna of the Empire, now Fauna and Flora International. This is a continuation of his 1892 work 'Short Stalks: or, Hunting camps north, south, east, and west'.

Illustrated with 89 numerous plates of the author's own photographs. With two folding colour maps in pockets to the front and rear pastedowns. Collated, complete.

With the charmingly illustrated armorial bookplate of 'Robert Clayton Swan' to the front free endpaper.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Some light marks to boards, with significant discolouration to back strip. Bumping to spine head and tail. Light tidemark to the head of spine. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages 103-106 are detached but present. Pages generally clean and bright, with some patches of heavier spotting towards the rear of the work.
