The fourth edition of this beautifully illustrated poem about the beauty and the mystery of Germany's Rhineland by Emil Rittershaus.

First published in 1885.

Illustrated with twenty etchings from German painter and graphic artist Bernhard Mannfeld, each retaining their original tissue guard. Collated, complete.

With an inscription, dated 1933, to the half title, from Franz Schwarner to Harold Gough 'as a souvenir of the time we had exchanged our daughters'.

A charmingly illustrated poem about the Rhine, in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, and board perimeters. Boards bright. Front hinge strained and rear hinge starting, with boards holding firm. Front and rear free endpapers lacking. Former owner's inscription to half title. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to plate perimeters, plates retaining original tissue guards.
