'Northward over the ''Great Ice'' ' Vol. II recounts some of Robert E. Peary's Arctic travels, particularly his expeditions to Greenland in 1893-1897. Contents include 'Discovery of the Saviksue', 'The Walrus Hunt', 'Sledge Trips of the Long Night', and 'The Land Beyond the Ice-Cap'.
Robert Peary was an American explorer who made several expeditions to the Arctic, sometimes with his wife and fellow arctic explorer, Josephine Diebitsch Peary. He was also part of a group of explorers who competed to set new 'Farthest North' records. This expression was rendered obsolete when, in 1909, Peary lead an expedition and claimed to be the first person to successfully reach the North Pole.
