What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Original Binding

The first edition of this study of the life of Admiral Nelson, from British admiral and MP Charles William de la Poer Beresford, and British journalist and naval historian Herbert Wrigley Wilson.

With a brightly coloured frontispiece, and illustrated throughout with vignette and full plate drawings and maps, 'mostly from contemporary sketches'.

The preface correctly identifies that while, by 1898 many similar studies of the life of Admiral Nelson had been produced, 'there are always fresh phases of character to be revealed, and newer side-lights to be thrown on the history of so surpassing a figure in the life of a nation'. This work is also unique in featuring such a volume of illustrations.

With the bookseller's label of 'Persephone Books' to the front free endpaper.

Condition

In the original half calf bindings, with cloth covered boards. Rubbing to extremities, with light fading to back strip. Bookseller's label to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Some marks to frontispiece. Pages otherwise bright and clean, with the odd handling mark.
