What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Signed
The first edition of this work from English mathematician Edward John Routh, remembered for his work in systematising the mathematical theory of mechanics and created several ideas critical to the development of modern control systems theory.
Loosely inserted is a sheet of paper signed by Routh, reading: 'with the author's kind regards, Newham Cottage, Queens Road, Cambridge'. Routh lived in Cambridge for much of his life, having attended the University before later becoming a fellow of Peterhouse College.
The author states in the preface that 'so many questions which necessarily excite our interest and curiosity are discussed in the dynamics of a particle that this subject has always been a favourite one of students', and goes on to discuss the subject in great detail, including a number of figures within the text.
With bookplates providing 'Examiner's Room' numbers to front and rear pastedown.
