A detailed dictionary of terms relating to mythology, religion, literature, art and antiquities. Covering predominantly the antiquities of Ancient Greece and Rome. Featuring over 2500 articles. Translated from the German of Dr. Oskar Seyffert, the renowned German art professor and folklorist at the Königliche Kunstgewerbeschule. Revised and edited, with additions, by Henry Nettleship, a classical scholar who is known for his involvement with the committee for establishing an Oxford women's college, and by J. E. Sandys, a scholar who is best known for his work, 'A History of Classical Scholarship'.
Condition
In quarter morocco binding, over the original cloth boards. Externally, very smart with some shelf wear to the edges. Marks to the boards. Fading to the spine. Bookplate to the front paste-down. Marks to the reverse of the free endpapers. Small tear to the lower front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age-toned but otherwise very bright and clean with just the odd small mark throughout. Some marks to the title page.
