Very scarce. Edited by G. Lister Sutcliffe, the arts and crafts architect. As stated in the works introduction, by Sutcliffe, 'The proper construction of houses is a matter of vital interest to every individual and to the community ar large. House badly-designed and jerry-built are sure and costly sources of discomfort, disease, and death.' Profusely illustrated throughout. With 27 plate throughout, and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated, incomplete. The volumes have the complete number of plate, with only one in-text illustration lacking, neatly cut from one page in volume 5. A scarce set of work, ideal for those with an interest in the history of construction, building and design.
Condition
In a decorative cloth binding. Externally, sound. Sunning to the spine. Tear to the cloth to volume 3. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, resulting in a small amount of loss and small tears to the cloth. Bumping also to the extremities. The odd mark to the boards. Offsetting and spotting to the front and rear pastedowns and endpaers of each volume. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean. Page to the front of volume 5 is uncut. Collated, the work contains the complete number of plates, but is lacking one in-text illustration to page 239 of volume 5.
