Uniformly bound in signed half calf binding by Riviere & Son.

From notable English writer and illustrator, William Makepeace Thackeray. He is best known for satirical works, particularly his novel titled ‘Vanity Fair’ which offers a panoramic portrait of British society and 'The Luck of Barry Lyndon' which was adapted into a 1975 film by Stanley Kubrick. 

Featuring biographical introductions by his daughter, Anne Ritchie. She also wrote several appreciated novels which made her a central figure on the late Victorian literary scene.

As well as plates, there are numerous illustrations throughout the text of each volume, including those illustrated by Thackeray.

The entirety of the set comprises:

Volume I - Vanity Fair: A Novel Without a Hero. With a portrait frontispiece of Thackeray and twenty-one plates. 

Volume II - The History of Pendennis: His Fortunes and Misfortunes, His Friends and His Greatest Enemy. With a frontispiece and nineteen plates. 

Volume III - The Memoirs of Mr. Charles J. Yellowplush, The History of Samuel Titmarsh and the Great Hoggarty Diamond, Cox's Diary etc. etc. With a frontispiece and twenty-four plates. 

Volume IV - The Memoirs of Barry Lyndon etc. With a frontispiece and fifteen plates.

Condition

Uniformly bound in signed half calf binding by Riviere & Son. Externally, smart. With moderate rubbing to the extremities causing small losses of calf, and marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot to the first and last few leaves.
