With a dedication from the Author: 'A.M. Longueville From The Author 5 May 1897' With publisher's advertisements to the rear. Whilst little is known of the author, owing to the surname, we believe this work to be dedicated to a relative of the author. Containing the author's observations on 'English manners, customs and surroundings' originally published as journal articles in 'The Saturday Review'. Bound in a charming pictorial red cloth, featuring an illustration of two dogs.
In a red cloth binding with pictorial board. Externally very smart with some shelfwear only. Slight bumping to the extremities and head and tail of spine. Sunning to the spine. Small areas of dampstaining to spine. Slight handling marks to front and rear board. Front hinge slightly strained but firm. Rear hinge tender with chords showing. Author's ink inscription to front free endpaper (dated 5 May 1897). Internally generally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just some slight age toning to the edges and the odd spot. Some heavier spotting to the first and last few pages. Rough cut page edges. Pages one to two of publisher's adverts are adhered resulting in a small closed tear to the page.
