First edition of Strength and How to Obtain It by Eugen Sandow in the original publisher's cloth binding. 

A scarce edition with only ten copies of the first edition held in libraries. 

Illustrated with nineteen monochrome plates including a frontispiece. Collated, complete. 

Missing the folding Anatomical Chart illustrating the Exercises for Physical Development.

Sandow was a German bodybuilder and showman, who in 1901 organised the first major bodybuilding competition set in London's Royal Albert Hall. He judged the event alongside author Arthur Conan Doyle and athlete Charles Lawes-Wittewronge. 


Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, sound. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. There is some slight loss to the tail of the spine. The hinges are slightly strained but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the odd spot.
