    A new edition of this work. Complete in six volumes. With half titles. A complete history of the papacy by Mandell Creighton, from the Great Schism in 1054 to the Sack of Rome in 1527. With discussions on the Reformation and the chance of a survey on contemporary European affairs.

    Mandell Creighton was a British historian and bishop of the Church of England, praised for his scrupulous even-handedness work.

    Condition

    In the original publisher's uniform full cloth bindings. Externally lightly bumped to head and tail of spine, back strip gently faded. Minor faint damp marking to peripherals of boards and corners vol I. Previous ownership inscription to half title dated 1901. Cuttings tipped in to front pastedown vol. V, concerning this work. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
