What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Uncommon
In this scarce first edition, Oswin Lee observes and photographs the British birds and their nests. As well as observing the different materials birds use to build their nests, Lee offers short descriptions of the various bird's habits. Accompanying his excellent photographs, Oswin also describes the difficulties he had finding the nests, and the methods he employed to get faithful photographs. With forty photographic plates to each volume, collated and complete. Page 60 in volume I has several tape repairs, as does page 108 in volume III. Ex-library bookplate to front pastedown in all four volumes. The book previously belonged to the library of Frederick A. Wood, who lived in Highfields, Chew Magna, Somerset.
Condition
In quarter calf binding over dark blue cloth. Externally, generally smart. All the volumes are lightly rubbed, but volume IV is a little more rubbed than the others to the front joint and the spine. The extremities are rather worn to the rear board of volumes I and III, and there is a small chip in the cloth where it meets the calf to the rear board of volume I. The extremities to the front board of volume II are also a little worn. Internally, firmly bound. Lightly foxed to the endpapers, but pages are otherwise bright and clean.
