In the original publisher's cloth bindings. With the original illustrations by Phiz. Collated, complete. Phiz was a pseudonym for English artist and illustrator, Hablot Knight Browne. Phiz also illustrated works by Charles Lever and Harrison Ainsworth. With an introduction and notes by famed Scottish poet, novelist and literary critic, Andrew Lang. Lang's work in the field of folklore and mythology are what he is now best remembered for, particularly his coloured 'Fairy Book' series.
Condition
In the publisher's cloth bindings. Externally, faded to the spines. Light spots due to damp staining to the front and rear boards of volume II Light rubbing and bumping to the head and tail of spines. Front hinges are strained but firm. Frontispiece to volume I is detached but present. Half title to volume II is loosening. Offsetting to endpapers. Internally, binding is generally firmly bound, with occasional plates loosening. Plate at page 180 to volume II is detached but present. Pages are slightly age toned to edges. Scattered spots to the foredges affecting the occasional page edge. Further scattered spotting to the first and last few pages with just the occasional spots throughout.
