Description
Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
An early UK edition of American author and illustrator Howard Pyle's children's tale, scarce in all UK editions.
Very faintly signed in pencil to the head of the front free endpaper by prominent illustrator Henry Matthew Brock, with the inscription dated 1902.
Illustrated throughout by Pyle himself, with full page illustrations.
With a four page publisher's catalogue to the rear.
A scarce edition of this fairy tale by Pyle, who was best known for his 1883 classic publication 'The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood', and for his 1888 novel 'Otto of the Silver Hand'.
Condition
In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with light spotting to fore edge of board. Faint inscription to head of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with instances of spotting. Loss to fore edge of page 16, not affecting text.
