Description
First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce, Signed
The first edition.
Very scarce work.
Signed by the author to his uncle, J. W. Cooper, 'With every fond wish from his nephew, H A Bryden', dated 1896. Very unusual to see a signed copy of Bryden's work, particularly with a personalised inscription.
Bound in the publisher's original pictorial cloth.
A collection of eleven short stories written by English author, solicitor and accomplished sportsman, Henry Anderson Bryden, who highlighted his athletic prowess by playing rugby for England in 1874. A keen hunter and naturalist, Bryden travelled widely, writing a number of books about his experiences.
Originally published in various periodicals, this is the first appearance of these stories as a collected work, with tales including 'The Secret of Verloren Vlei' and 'A Desert Mystery'. Each story is set against the colourful and exciting background of South Africa, a country visited by Bryden on his travels.
Ownership inscription of the author's uncle, C. Cowper, to the front paste down.
Condition
