Sixth in the 'Collection of Court Memoirs'. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece to both volumes, one of which depicts Napoleon Bonaparte.

'The Secret History of the Court and Cabinet of St. Cloud' is a series of letters from a noble gentleman in Paris, related to another nobleman in London. These letters were written during the months of August to October 1805, and are attributed to a man named Stewarton who was said to be a friend to the Empress Josephine. 

Contents of these letters includes accounts of the lives of nearly all of Napoleon's ministers and generals, with insights about other interesting characters within Napoleon's Court, as well as the French leader himself.

Collated, complete. 

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Fading and discolouration to the margins of boards as well as along the spines, with a few marks to the boards of both volumes. Very light edge wear to extremities and head and tail of spine. Closed tears to front endpaper of Vol I, with tape repair to the verso of the page. Institutional stamp to front free endpapers of both volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with the odd spot particularly to the fore edge of text.
