Kipling is best known for this novel 'The Jungle Book', however he was a prolific writer of poems, novels, and short stories. Being born in India inspired much of his work, and he went on to become one of the most popular writers of his time.
Originally published in magazines between 1893 and 1894, 'The Jungle Book' contains a selection of tales and fables inspired in part by the ancient Indian fable texts such as the Panchatantra and the Jataka tales. The book is arranged with a story in each chapter, with each story followed by a poem.
In the publisher's original dark blue cloth binding, with gilt stamped design of three elephants to the front board and gilt page edges.
A first edition, fourth impression of 1895.
Copiously illustrated throughout by the author's father, John Lockwood Kipling, and the renowned American painters William Henry Drake and Paul Frenzeny.
Condition
In the publisher's original decorative blue cloth binding with gilt lettering and designs to the front board and spine. Externally, lovely and good colour, with just some light shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of spine. Internally, hinges slightly tender but firm. Book is firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
